Our style

With this philosophy, we’ve created a fresh and elegant style, where the fruit is the undisputed star, fully expressing its character, without being overshadowed by the excessive use of oak. This is what we like to call the
“Ramón Bilbao twist”.

“Capturing the unique essence of our vineyards in Rioja and Rueda in every bottle we produce.”

Our awards

Throughout our history, we’ve received many national and international awards, but if we had to choose just four, they would be the following:

In 2014, we were recognised as
the ‘Best Spanish Winery’
by the International Wine & Spirit
Competition, the most rigorous and reputable
competition in the world.

We’ve been part of this programme
since 2017, recognised for our
commitment to environmental sustainability,
and becoming the first winery in Spain
to have the vineyard certified too.

In 2019, we entered the list
of the ‘50 Most Admired Wine Brands
in the World’, a prize that marked
a dream come true for us that
remains true to this day.

In 2024, we were named
‘Best European Producer’ by this,
the most prestigious association of sommeliers,
with an award celebrating our excellence and consistent
quality in each and every one of our wines.

Our commitment

The land we cultivate has made us who we are.
We owe everything to it, and to give back a little
of what it gives us, we have been part of the Wineries
for Climate Protection programme since 2017,
becoming the first company in the wine sector to achieve
certification for both the winery and the vineyards.
As a conscious and responsible company aware of the impact
we generate on the planet, we have drawn up an action plan
for the coming years.

Our winemakers

Behind every one of our wines is someone who has crafted it for others to enjoy. Get to know them.

RODOLFO BASTIDA

Winemaker at Ramón Bilbao Rioja.

Like many of the best winemakers, Rodolfo Bastida stumbled upon this field by chance, though his family happened to be from La Rioja and cultivated the land. He has a degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Master’s in Enology and Viticulture. His obsession with experimenting and creating wines with strong character drew him fully into the world of winemaking.

In 1999, he became General Director of Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, where his innovative vision was implemented. His philosophy focuses on the importance of caring for every detail in the cultivation of grapes to create wines with character. His leadership and commitment have been crucial in making Ramón Bilbao one of the most admired wine brands in the world.

ROSANA LISA

Winemaker at Bodegas Lalomba.

Born in Huesca, Rosana graduated in Chemical Sciences and obtained her Master’s in Enology at the University of La Rioja in 2002.

She has extensive experience in winemaking, having begun her career at Roda and later worked with other prestigious producers in various D.O.s, including Calatayud and Cariñena, where she focused on producing Garnacha wines. She is now Rodolfo Bastida’s right-hand at Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, where she is also Director of Wine Innovation and Deputy Technical Manager. Additionally, she leads the exclusive Lalomba winery project and is currently studying for the WSET Diploma in Bordeaux.

SARA BAÑUELOS

Winemaker at Ramón Bilbao Rueda.

Though born in Badajoz, Sara has Riojan wine-making in her blood. She holds a degree in Enology and a degree in Agricultural Engineering with a focus on Food Industries. Following her studies, she has spent harvest after harvest working on research projects related to enology and viticulture.

Over the years, she has gained experience at several wineries in the D.O. Rueda, learning the secrets of wineries of all kinds, be they large, small or family-run. Her valuable experience and knowledge of Castilla y León eventually led her to work at Ramón Bilbao, where she is now responsible for Rueda.
