The inspiration of every day
Single Vineyard is a wine that springs from the history of Rioja Alta, where in the past, you could find different variettes together in the same vineyard plot: garnachas, tempranillos, gracianos, mazuelos… In hormage to this tradition Rodolfo created this wine with ist own style and personality.
WINE MAKER
Rodolfo Bastida is the orchestra director of Ramón Bilbao, an expert in the conquest of wine. You can always count on him in this new adventure that is about something more than wine. Vitality, maybe …
The growth cycle of the 2016 vintage was characterised by a general delay of 15
days compared to a typical year. After a very cold end to the winter, budburst began in the first week in April. Spring saw the arrival of abundant showers. In general, fruit setting progressed with no problems with good signs of fertility. The summer was very dry, especially during the final stages of the vineyards´ evolution when temperaturas were high. The vegetative condition was not affected by the lack of water thanks to the rainfall which had accumulated during the whole cycle. Total rainfall was at levels above the average figure so sufficient reserves were provided for the long ripening of the vines. Harvesting has been completed without any problems, in excellent weather conditions and producing very good quality fruit.
The vineyards are situated nearby Haro (Rioja) at an altitude of 500 metres over sea level and exposed to Atlantic/Mediterranean climate with high sun exposition. It is surrounded by almond and olive trees. Soils are varied with river bed pebbles originated during the Quaternary period and the clay subsoil. Fermentation take place in steel tanks where temperaturas go up to 28-29 ºC and quick devatting, once the colour extraction (tanins and anthocyanins) is at the optimum level.
Bright cherry-red colour, with aromas of sweet, ripe cherries, blackberries and hints of ripe peaches. Light balsamic background with very subtle, clean, roasted notes coming from the oak, making it very fragrant as a whole. Well-structured in the mouth, with intense fruity reminiscences and a tasty and velvety finish.
Ideal serving temperature between 18-20 ºC (64,4 – 68 ºF). Perfect with very spicy
meat or fish, Thai food, as well as with the classic smoked or cured meat.
